Slip ring brushes provide the electrical contact point on a slip ring and are specified to meet the electrical, mechanical and operating parameters for the slip ring function.
The specific configuration of the brushes is key to providing the optimum electrical function along with long wear life. Brush contact surfaces receive 100% of the wear exposure opposed to that of the conductor rings having wear distributed over 360 degrees. Adequate brush contact point area on the conductor rings is critical to accommodate power channels along with very low dynamic resistance for data or low energy analog signals.
Operating conditions need to be considered for specifying brushes to include slip ring R.P.M., duty cycle, single or reversing rotation, operating temperature along with the specific electrical channel information.
Sibley can supply a variety of brush configurations for ring conductors on 1 mm centers up to high Amp rated brushes for large slip rings carrying significant power loads. Small brushes have precious metal contact surfaces; large brushes have silver-graphite contact points.
The other product categories show slip rings that use a full scope of brush configurations and styles we provide. Brushes are where “the rubber meets the road” on slip rings.
